LIGHTS N LAYERS

I love riding in the fall. The temps are a bit cooler, the leaves are starting to change, and there is no worry about needing to train for an event. We can just enjoy being outside!

Now is a good time to make sure you have lights that are in good working order, and that you know where your warmer layers are. Riding at dusk can be magical, but please be safe about it. Lights now are powerful and relatively inexpensive and quick to charge, so don’t skimp on this detail.

I’m writing this just before heading out to The Oskar Blues taproom in Longmont, where The Ride Collective is hosting a group ride and a happy hour after. The note above is as much to me as it is to you: remember to charge your lights before you leave; it’s getting dark earlier and earlier now.

Lezyne and Bontrager both make great lights. You can certainly spend more, but those are the two brands I use.

Similarly, having a good, lightweight shell you can tuck in your jersey pocket is a good idea in the fall. Bonus points if it’s got reflective elements on it.

This fall, I’ll pass on the pumpkin spice lattes, but I’m as keen as ever to get out there on the bike. Be safe and enjoy the ride!
